Haringey corrects the named supplier on its £19.76m gas contract after 29 months

Haringey Council has corrected the supplier named on a gas supply contract it values at £19.76m, 29 months after Cabinet awarded it.

The Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services approved the change on 12 August. The council will execute a Deed of Rectification and Novation, switching the supplier from Corona Energy Limited to Corona Energy Retail 4 Limited.

Cabinet awarded the contract on 12 March 2024. The agenda for that meeting names Corona Energy Retail 4 Ltd as the gas supplier, at an estimated £19.76m, for the period 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2029.

The same item awarded the council's electricity contract to Npower Commercial Gas Limited at an estimated £36.68m. The two energy contracts together come to £56.44m.

The agenda says the contracts cover streetlighting, corporate and housing portfolios, plus schools that opt in.

The correction record states: "It was a clerical error that led to the company name Corona Energy Limited being used on the contract and this error must be corrected to reflect the correct details."

Officers gave a reason for acting now. The record states that Corona Energy Limited "is in Members Voluntary Liquidation so not rectifying the contract may lead to issues" with liquidators. A members' voluntary liquidation is a solvent winding-up.

The wrong name has stood since the March 2024 award. The council has been buying gas under the contract since 1 April 2025, about 16 months.

Cabinet took the award as a non-key decision. The agenda item is titled "Procurement of the Council Energy Contracts - NON KEY", and states that "contracts for the supply of energy are exempt from being defined as a key decision" under the council's constitution.

It is the second such correction in three days. On 10 August a Cabinet Member Signing changed a dockless bike operator's name from Human Forest (Bikes) Ltd to Human Forest Ltd.

That record states: "An administrative error was identified in the 10 March 2026 Cabinet Report concerning the award of the dockless bike contract to Human Forest."

Cabinet awarded that contract on 10 March 2026 to Lime Technology Ltd and Human Forest (Bikes) Ltd, for four years from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2030. The financial detail sits in an exempt appendix.

The two corrections are the only ones on Haringey's decisions register for 1 to 15 August. The register for 1 May to 31 July lists no correction of a contracting party's name.

Neither correction is subject to call-in, so councillors cannot refer either to a scrutiny committee for review.

The gas contract runs to 31 March 2029. The bike contract runs to 31 March 2030, with an option of two further years at annual intervals, subject to performance.
