Jubilee line trains skip Southwark for six and a half hours a day to 11 September

Transport for London states that from Monday 17 August until Friday 11 September, "Jubilee line trains will not stop at Southwark between 09:45 and 16:15, Monday to Friday".

That is six and a half hours of each weekday, across a period of close to four weeks.

TfL's station closures page gives the reason: "The closures are while extensive work on the over-station development takes place."

The page tells passengers: "Please use Waterloo station for the Jubilee line." It puts Waterloo at an 8-10 minute walk from Southwark via The Cut, and offers Blackfriars or Elephant & Castle with buses 40 or 63 as the other way round.

TfL's closure pages carry no figure for how many people use Southwark on a weekday. Its annual station entry and exit counts sit in a separate dataset on its crowding data portal, which could not be consulted for this story, so the record here gives the closure no scale.

Two other station works run alongside it. From Monday 17 until Sunday 30 August, TfL states that East Ham has "No step-free access to/from the westbound platform", and tells passengers to take bus 238 or an eastbound train to Barking, or to continue to West Ham and change there.

At Caledonian Road, from Friday 21 until Monday 24 August, TfL states that "Eastbound trains will not stop".

The Southwark works span the August bank holiday. TfL's major works and events page lists "Notting Hill Carnival/August Bank Holiday" as affecting "Tube, driving, cycling, walking" in the "Notting Hill area Sun 30-Mon 31 August".

TfL's station closures page carries no entries at all for 29 to 31 August at this stage, and none for Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Park or Latimer Road.
